Simply Put – our plain English campaign

Simply Put was developed by the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) to help organisations to communicate in plain English in Ireland. Plain English is a way of presenting information that helps people to understand it the first time they read or hear it. This approach involves using short, clear sentences and everyday words. It cuts out the jargon and small print that is often used in official documents and public information.

A part of our campaign for plain English, we have launched a petition asking the Taoiseach to ensure that all public information produced by Government and its agencies is written in plain English. We believe that people should be able to understand the services provided by the Government. We encourage you to sign our petition and help support the plain English campaign in Ireland.

Plain English training and editing services

In addition to promoting plain English communication in Ireland, Simply Put offers plain English writing support and training to organisations across the country. Of course, a key goal of any organisation is to communicate well with its customers and customers too want information that is quick and easy to understand. In fact, recent research by NALA found that almost 95% of Irish adults are in favour of plain English.

Our plain English editing service aims to help organisations and the public alike by simplifying information and making it easy to understand. We help organisations to produce clear publications and documents. In addition, we offer plain English training which consists of one-day and half-day courses and shorter workshops on applying plain English techniques to writing and layout.
